'RAKESH ROSHAN' MIGHT RETURN TO ACTING

Producer Harish Shah, who made films like ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’ (1972), ‘Kala Sona’ (1975), ‘Ram Tere Kitne Nam’ (1985) and ‘Jaal: The Trap’ (2003), is now all set to produce a film after a decade. It is a comedy film, tentatively titled 'Kya Masti Kya Dhoom' and will be helmed by Chandrakant Singh. 

There is a buzz around that he has approached Rakesh Roshan to act in the film. The veteran actor has been part of many comedy films like 'Khatta Meetha', 'Khubsoorat', and 'Shriman Shrimati'. Harish Shah has earlier worked with Roshan senior in the Shyam Ramsay directed 1981 film 'Hotel'. 

Rakesh Roshan was last seen onscreen in a special appearance in 'Koi... Mil Gaya' (2003).

A source said, "Although Shah was not making movies, he has maintained a good rapport with all the actors he worked with. He was recently taken ill and now that he has recovered, he wants to resume work. He is gearing up to make another movie."

The source added, "The film is about a father looking for his missing child. The journey will have lot of twists. Rakesh loved the idea but said that he needs to prepare himself to face the camera again. He is holidaying with his family in the US and will return in the first week of January. The two will meet to discuss the project after that."

When contacted Harish Shah confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I met Rakesh last week with an interesting subject. I am waiting for him to return to India."

After listing down the five most grossing movies of 2013, we now get you the most critical acclaimed movies of the year. In the year where one side many movies managed to cross the 200cr mark, there were also many movies which couldn't do that great business at the box-office, but got applauds from the critics.

1: "Kai Po Che"

Abhishek Kapoor's "Kai Po Che", was based on Chetan Bhagat's novel "The 3 Mistakes of My Life". Well, it is said that it's difficult to convert a book into a movie, but this movie proved the statement wrong. From direction to acting, everything was perfect in this movie. Critics too gave the movie a thumps up. But, it couldn't do any wonders at the box-office and collected only Rs. 50cr. 

2: "Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster Returns"

Cast: Jimmy Shergill, Mahi Gill, Irrfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan

After the success of the first part "Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster", Tigmanshu Dhulia planned the sequel to the film titled as "Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster Returns". Like the first installment of the movie, this one too got a lot of critical appreciation. The Royal setting of the film and the acting of the lead actors was something to look forward for. But still this movie couldn't do a good business at the box-office and only collected Rs. 19cr. 

3: "Raanjhanaa"

Cast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol

"Tanu Weds Manu" director Anand L. Rai came up with another romantic movie "Raanjhanaa" this year. The movie starred an unusual pairing of Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor. Based in the backdrop of Varanasi, this movie was one of the best romantic movies made in Bollywood. Above all was A. R. Rahman's exceptional music. 

"Raanjhanaa" was liked by critics as well as the audiences, but couldn't collect anything more than Rs. 65cr at the box-office. 

4: "Madras Cafe"

Cast: John Abraham, Nargis Fakhri

Shoojit Sircar's "Madras Cafe" was based on the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The movie saw John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles. The movie got tremendous critical acclaimed because of its strong concept and performances and also opened well at the box-office because of the positive word of mouth. But, once again this critical acclamation did not work in favors of the film and it did an average business of Rs. 45cr at the box-office.

5: "The Lunchbox"

Cast: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Can you fall in love with someone you have never met? Well before watching this movie everyone would have answered a 'No'. Two lonely people connect with each other because of a lunchbox. Ritesh Batra's beautiful style of storytelling was loved by each and every critic. However this movie ended up collecting only Rs. 20cr at the box-office. 

6: "Shahid"

Cast: Rajkummar Rao

Hansal Mehta's "Shahid" was a biographical movie, based on the life of a lawyer and human rights activist, Shahid Azmi. This movie showed the lawyer's journey from being accused as a terrorist to being a lawyer fighting for human rights. Rajkummar Rao's acting in this film got an overwhelming response from the critics. One can surely say that this is the most critical acclaimed film of the year. Though being praised by critics, this film only managed to earn only Rs. 4cr at the box-office. However Shahid was made on a budget of mere Rs. 80 lakhs.

WILL DEEPIKA FINALLY WORK WITH SALMAN NEXT YEAR?

Many times 'Deepika Padukone' has expressed her desire to work with Salman, but unfortunately the actress has not got that opportunity yet.

However, it seems like next year finally the leggy lass and the Dabngg Khan will come together onscreen. Reportedly, Deepika may soon be signed opposite Salman in Sooraj Barjatya's next movie.

A source said, "Deepika has kept bulk dates exclusively for Sooraj's movie. This time, she doesn't want to miss out on the chance to star opposite Salman. Besides, she is a self-confessed fan of Barjatya too."

The director of the movie, Sooraj Barjatya said, "We have had several meetings with Deepika and the talks have reached an advance stage. Right now, we are figuring out the dates since it's a long schedule. However, nothing is official yet."

So, let us wait and watch whether Deepika will finally get a chance to work with Salman next year.

WILL SRK & SALMAN COME TOGETHER ONSCREEN?

The stars 'Shah Rukh Khan' and 'Salman Khan' were last seen together onscreen shaking a leg in a song in Farah Khan’s 'Om Shanti Om". Both the actors were not in talking terms from a long time due to a fight which took place between them. 

But this year at an Eid party both the actors hugged each other and showed a friendly gesture. And now there are rumours around that the two will share screen space yet again in Farah Khan’s upcoming movie "Happy New Year".

In "Om Shanti Om", there was a song where many B-Town celebs made an appearance and now for ‘HNY’, Farah and SRK both are planning for a similar dance number. In ‘OSO’, SRK had invited every popular actor to make an appearance in the song. So now for their next movie it will be interesting to see that which B-Town celebs are invited.

Yes it is true, the winner of the most controversial season of "Bigg Boss 7" is none other than GUAHAR KHAN.

FAROOQ SHEIKH IS NO MORE

On Friday, veteran actor "Farooq Sheikh" passed away in Dubai after suffering a sudden heart attack. The actor who was born on 25th March 1948 died at the age of 65.

After completing all the formalities in Dubai, his body will be brought to Mumbai later in the day.

The actor had been a part of numerous famous movies such as Satyajit Ray's "Shatranj Ke Khiladi", "Chashme Buddoor", "Kissi Se Na Kehna" and "Noorie". He had also been part of parallel cinema in the 1970s and 1980s.

"Garm Hava" (1973) was legendary actor’s first movie in Bollywood and he was last seen in "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" as Ranbir Kapoor’s father and recently released movie "Club 60".

He made a tremendous contribution in theatre and TV as well. He was the host of the famous talk show "Jeena Isi ka naam hai" on television.

We pray that the actor’s soul rest in peace.

Dhoom 3 - Movie Reviews

Opening on the debt ridden illusionist (Jackie Shroff, first-rate), and his prodigy son Sahir, “Dhoom 3” quickly discards any substantiality of the plot in favor of superficially sexy-looking escape sequences of the movie’s lead crook – a grown up version of Sahir played by Aamir Khan with a constant furrow and a skewered expression.

Sahir is his father’s son, and discrediting the films’s opening about their family circus being debt ridden by a nefarious bank, he is running a modern day grandstand version of the circus to packed houses. He is also, quite openly, raiding the bank that forced his father to put a bullet to his head.

Regardless of being set in Chicago, where ANY bank’s security would be a tad better than India’s (I think), Sahir loots the place, threatens them in Hindi, places a joker’s mask as his mark, and scales the building down without concealing his identity. If the heist feels anticlimactic, it’s because we didn’t see how Sahir thwarted the bank’s security measures. In fact, we never see him committing any robbery in “Dhoom 3”. He just, quite simply, escapes.

Anyways, the bank and police – who are adept at ramming their own service vehicles every time Sahir is on the run – are baffled. Who is this unmasked burglar? Maybe someone forgot to think about surveillance tapes, or questioning people on the streets he drops in on. (A social security check on would-be suspects would have worked wonders, if anyone would’ve bothered to have asked me).

Instead, feeling trumped, they bring Indian super-cop Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and his love-ready, bike Savvy partner Ali (Uday Chopra) over for some bland play-acting. (And before I forget, the cast includes the cameo-esque screen-time of lead actress Katrina Kaif, who plays Aaliya, the high-wire acrobat who falls for Sahir).

In a series of juvenile scenes, Jai finds Sahir out, but doesn’t arrest him; (because, if Jai nabs Sahir now, the next cut would be the end credits).

Deepika Padukone is surely the frontrunner for all the awards this year.This actress recently was honoured with the 'Indian of the Year 2013 award' for her contribution to the entertainment industry.

A news channel honoured 11 extraordinary Indians across Politics, Sports, Entertainment, Business and Public Service categories.

Deepika received the special achievement award from her father and former badminton star 'Prakash Padukone'.

The actress was awarded for her acting abilities, which she showcased in 2013 with movies like "Race 2", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Chennai Express" and "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela".

In a statement Deepika said, "I have always done what seemed right to me and my parents supported me all throughout. I never sit and analyze before signing a movie if it will be a hit or not, rather just go by my heart. If I like the script, nothing else matters to me. I feel so proud to have received it (Indian of the Year award) from my father." 

Even Kapil Sharma won the same award for his show "Comedy Nights With Kapil". 

Kapil said, "It's the year of the common man and I am also one of them. To be awarded amidst such eminent personalities and dignitaries it's a great achievement in itself. I have always believed in working and entertaining the common man and that I think is the success mantra of my life."

AAMIR SAYS "DHOOM 3" TICKET PRICES ARE NOT EXPENSIVE

"DHOOM 3" TICKET PRICES ARE NOT EXPENSIVE

There were rumours suggesting that the ticket prices of "Dhoom 3" are hiked like other big banner movies (like Chennai Express or Krissh 3). But, the rumours turn out to be false. In single screens and multiplexes, the ticket prices of "Dhoom 3" are in the usual price bracket of Rs. 50 - Rs. 380 depending on the show timing and theatre.

The makers of the movie were shocked when they came to know about these rumours.

"Dhoom 3" is the first Bollywood movie to release in IMAX theatres and as IMAX format is expensive, the ticket prices in these theatres would be in the price range of Rs 350 to Rs 900.

Aamir Khan says, "Dhoom 3 ticket prices are not expensive. They are priced just like the other movies that have released and in general, ticket prices also differ as per the show timings. It is also the first Hindi film to release in the IMAX format and there are a total of four such screens in India, two of which are in Mumbai. Apart from those four screens, the tickets of "Dhoom 3" are in the usual price range."

The Bollywood classic "Sholay" 3D version of the 1975, which was slated to release on megastar Amitabh Bachchan's 71st birthday on Friday, is now likely to release in January 3, 2014. The makers wanted a "four-week window" for the movie. 

"We have requested cinemas to give us a four-week window. So, we are currently in talks with cinemas for a date in January," Jayantilal Gada, who is the presenter of the movie, said in a statement. 

This movie is very significant for the makers, who have spent three years on the 3D project. 

"It's an old movie. We don't want to rush to cinemas for a one-week window because this is not like a Chennai Express or any new movie which gets a big opening," Gada added. 

Sholay, directed by Ramesh Sippy, is a landmark movie in Indian cinema. It featured Dharmendra as Veeru, Amitabh as his friend Jai, Hema Malini, who played the effervescent Basanti and the late Amjad Khan, who played iconic villain Gabbar Singh.
